Artist | Sculpture | Ceramics
Amy McRoberts is an artist working across sculpture and ceramics from her studio in Bangor, Northern Ireland.
Working primarily with clay, she develops forms through processes of making and transformation, allowing material, surface and gesture to guide the work. Her practice moves between sculpture and smaller ceramic objects, united by a sustained attention to the physical language of the handmade.
The Making
The studio is where ideas take physical form. Working predominantly with clay, I move between the wheel, hand-building and sculptural processes, allowing each piece to develop through touch, pressure and transformation. The marks of making are retained, giving each work its own presence and character.
The Wider Pratice
The smaller works offer one point of entry into a practice that extends beyond the functional and the familiar. Sculpture allows ideas to unfold through scale, material and space, creating works that ask to be encountered rather than simply observed.
